24 x 24 inches
Encaustic, Color Pencil, Gouache, on Panel
This piece is about my identity as a mother. Coincidentally it became easier to let my 3 year old draw along with me on the panel; including them in the object of my attention. I chose for their lines to remain, enjoying the challenge of integrating their chaos into my preconception. These struggles with awkwardness, self-doubt, acceptance and cliche are the frankest documentation of motherhood I can conceive. The figure is in orientation dissonance, another aspect of motherhood, never knowing which way is up.
