My inspiration for this Series comes from Greek Mythology and ancient Greek Art. The Ancient Greeks were not shy about sex. Scenes of seduction between mortals, gods, and heroes are everywhere. Phallic imagery adorns their vases, drinking cups, mosaics, and walls. Sex and sexual desire were central to ancient Greek religion. I especially find the anthropomorphism and promiscuity of the Greek gods and other creatures fascinating.
These particular pieces were also influenced by the ancient Greek black-figure vases. They were especially common between the 7th and 5th centuries BC. Figures were “painted” on using a clay slurry in shapes reminiscent of silhouettes and are important sources for mythology, iconography, and of course sex scenes.
