JP Morrison Lans

Statement: I contrast realism alongside abstract representations of the body, as metaphors for my experiences of womanhood, motherhood, love, loss, self-preservation, panic, desire, and knowing. Often I use orientation dissonance in my work, inventions which symbolize circumspection, surrender, gestation, and metamorphosis. I render my hands frequently, they represent my intention and action. I also paint the mouth as a gateway between inner self and outer world. Through teeth and touch, I experience intimacy and desire. They create boundaries while also being entry points. Through my work, I invite you to experience this push and pull between entering and observing from a distance.
